STUDENT BODY
The student body is international, consisting of students from 32 countries. AISOY expanded to include grades 9-12 in the fall of 1996. We will graduate 18 seniors in 2024.
SCHOOL YEAR AND SCHEDULE
The school year (180 days) is divided into semesters; one beginning in mid-August, one beginning in mid-January. Our schedule allows high school students to enrol in 8 courses per year for grades 9 and 10. Grades 11 and 12 may enrol in 7 courses per year. Each class meets a minimum of 205 minutes per week.
GRADING SYSTEM
Grades are issued on a semester basis, and each semester is recorded on the student’s permanent record (transcript). End-of-year exams are given in most courses. Credit is given by course; one full credit is awarded for successful completion of a year-long course and reflects only courses taken at the American School of Yaounde. Grades from previous schools are not included on AISOY’s transcript. The American School of Yaounde does not weight courses since 2018.
GPA
Grade point averages are determined from the final grades of all AISOY classes completed in grades 9-12. Due to the complexity of our student population in regard to language, culture, diversity, scholastic backgrounds, and our small size, we have chosen not to rank our students.
Average points obtained by a diploma candidate**
* 24 minimum needed to pass, maximum available points 45
** IB exam score range from 1 -7 points per exam
Grading System
AISOY has a two-semester calendar year. First and second-semester grades are recorded on the student’s official transcript.
